Game of Logging, Levels 1 & 2
May 10 @ 8:00 am - May 11 @ 4:00 pm
$500Game of Logging Level 1 and 2. This 2-day training — developed in the 1960s by Soren Eriksson, a Swedish logger turned instructor — combines Scandinavian logging techniques with the latest systems for working safely around trees. This training is hands-on: each participant will have time to practice techniques and receive personal feedback from the instructor.
Level 1 provides an overview of chain saw safety and covers basic tree felling, and is a pre-requisite for taking Level 2, which covers basic saw maintenance, chain sharpening techniques and provides another opportunity for tree felling.
Two separate sessions of GOL Levels 1 & 2 will be offered this year; select either:
- Session 1, Saturday & Sunday, May 10-11, 8am – 4pm.
OR
- Session 2, Saturday & Sunday, May 24-25, 8am – 4pm.
Participants should bring their own chainsaw (if available), PPE, including a safety helmet with face shield, eye and ear protection, and chaps, as well as lunch, water, and snacks for the day. Space is limited to 10 students and registration is available to participants aged 18 and up. Visit https://www.woodlandtraining.com/faq/ for additional information.

Registration preference is given to those registering for Levels 1 & 2 together: students signing up for only ONE level will be wait-listed. If the classes are not full 7-10 days before class date, we will process the waitlist for single-class registrations.
Participants have the option of camping on the old house-site at no charge.
Cancellation up to 10 days prior to the program will incur a $50 administrative fee. Cancellations made 10 or fewer days prior to the program will not be refunded, unless we are able to fill your spot, in which case you will receive a full refund, less the $50 administrative fee. Refunds will not be issued due to inclement weather. If a program is postponed due to extreme weather (a very rare occurrence), participants are expected to attend the program on the rescheduled date. Should Merck Forest cancel the program due to unforeseen circumstances, and the program is not rescheduled, a full refund will be issued.
