Farm Volunteering

The farm has four fun ways to engage volunteers. Read below to find which volunteer options work best with your schedule.

Horticultural Helpers
Grab a pail and give us a hand with our berry picking. During the summer season, we operate a U-Pick berry operation. We also pick surplus berries and sell them in the Joy Green Visitor Center. One of the tastiest jobs at MFFC, your help frees up staff time for other farm projects.

Hay Bale Heavers
Merck Forest and Farmland Center is committed to making hay with our team of Suffolk Punch Draft Horses. While very rewarding, this seasonal work requires a lot of human energy as well as horse power. Volunteers work alongside Merck Staff to put up feed for winter.

Super Stars
Do you have a particular skill set and want to volunteer some time to an area of interest? The farm is always in need of skilled help with slate roofs, general carpentry, gardening, and lawn mowing. We will provide you with materials and equipment.

Hammering

For some jobs, volunteers work alongside Merck Staff until proficient, while other tasks are performed as a team. To become a Farm Volunteer, email tim@merckforest.org.
